MILFORD - CancerCare is pleased to introduce Walk for Hope to Milford. The event will be taking place at Ann Street Park on Saturday, April 17 and will occur rain or shine. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the Walk begins at 10 AM. Participants are required to make a minimum pledge of $25. Prizes will be awarded to top fundraisers and teams. Walkers will enjoy a 2.5 mile route through historic Milford borough, followed by refreshments, activities for the kids, and music, as well as the satisfaction that comes from working together to make a difference.
Walk for Hope gives individuals and families the opportunity to honor those they have lost to cancer, celebrate those who are surviving, and give hope to those who are currently battling the disease. All of these individuals understand the importance of CancerCare’s services, including professional one-to-one counseling, support groups, educational programs and financial assistance, provided free of charge.
Last year, CancerCare’s free support, education and practical assistance services reached a record number of people in all 50 states and 92 percent of the nation’s counties. CancerCare directly reached more than 100,000 people through services such as financial assistance, professional counseling, education and support groups all provided by master level trained oncology social workers. Along with that, another 1.6 million people logged on to our website, www.cancercare.org. In fact, more people are turning to us for help than ever before. We absolutely must be there for them, ready to offer the tools, support and compassion they’ll need throughout their cancer experience. CancerCare continues to provide all services free of charge. CancerCare depends entirely on gifts, grants and contributions from individuals, foundations and corporations. The organization is separate and apart from any other cancer organization.
For more information or to register, please visit www.cancercare.org/walk or contact Katelyn Foran at 1-800-813-HOPE ext.6812 or kforan@cancercare.org.

Hershey, PA – A dozen children from Monroe County have brighter futures thanks to a free, residential school located in Hershey, PA. Milton Hershey School is looking for more local students, ages 4-15, to benefit from this terrific opportunity. Representatives from the School was held at the Quality Inn in Stroudsburg on Wednesday, March 10, from 6-8 p.m. for an informal get-together for parents and children to learn more about Milton Hershey School.
The event included a brief presentation and a time for questions. In addition, an evening meal was served. There was no cost to attend the event and no registration is required to attend the Opportunity Fair. For information, call 800-322-3248.
Milton S. Hershey, founder of the Hershey Chocolate Company, and his wife Catherine, founded the Milton Hershey School in 1909. They had no children of their own and wanted to help orphan boys in need get a good education. Today, the school, located on more than 10,000 acres in Hershey, serves boys and girls from 4 years of age through their 12th grade graduation, who are in social and financial need.
The school provides everything for the children – a top-notch education, recreation, food, housing, clothing, medical and dental care. The children live with a married houseparent couple in homes with about 10 to 12 students their age. More than just caretakers, houseparents take an active, nurturing interest in students’ development and well-being.
The school emphasizes rigorous academics, character education and hands-on work experience. Senior high school students get training in career/technical areas. Each graduating student also can earn a continuing education scholarship to pursue college or career training.
Just as importantly, the school provides caring structure and guidance to help children learn responsibility and keep them safe.
Students also have many co-curricular opportunities, from sports to visual and performing arts, to agricultural interests.
Milton Hershey School’s mission is to nurture and educate children in social and financial need to lead fulfilling and productive lives. It is a special place where children can open doors to a brighter future.
