Mark Turner, age 42, of Paupack died Tuesday, February 23, at Mercy Hospice, Scranton, following a courageous 2-month battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Kristi, whom he married on May 4, 1991.
Born December 6, 1967, in Union City, PA, he was the son of Charles K. Turner of Meadville, PA, and Margaret Shearer Francis of Lake Havasu City, AZ. He was a graduate of Cranberry High School. He obtained his undergraduate and M.B.A. from Clarion University. In addition, he obtained his teaching credential from East Stroudsburg and was currently completing his Principal Certificate at Wilkes University.
Mr. Turner taught pre-algebra at Dingman-Delaware Middle School in Dingmans Ferry, where he was loved and adored by his students and colleagues and fondly known as “Superman.” He was Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Paupack United Methodist Church, a member of Paupack Parks and Recreation, and coached Babe Ruth Baseball and Dingman Delaware Wrestling. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, but especially enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a son and daughter, Max (10) and Mackenzie (8); one sister, Roxann Brain of Kennerdell, PA; two brothers, Chuck Turner of Chino Valley, AZ, and Mike Turner of Peoria, AZ; two uncles, Jim Turner of Phoenix, AZ, and Charles Shearer of Cambridge Springs, PA; his mother- and father-in-law, Judie and Walt Flinchbaugh of Seneca, PA; a brother-in-law, Mike Flinchbaugh of St. Johns, FL; an uncle, Edward Mazeika of Simi Valley, CA, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours were Sunday, Feb. 28, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Paupack United Methodist Church, Rt. 507, Paupack, PA. The funeral was held Monday, March 1, at 11 a.m. at Paupack United Methodist Church, with Rev. Susan M. Heafield, Pastor, officiating. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Paupack.

Hedy Klein, 76, of Lords Valley, PA passed away Saturday February 20, 2010 at home. She was a Certified Public Accountant for Alblong Traugeg Sismann C.P.A., in Springfield, NJ. Mrs. Klein was a member of the Church at Hemlock Farms, Lords Valley, PA. The daughter of the late Otto and Maya (Albecker) Fischer she was born July 28, 1933 in Germany. She was married to Walter R. Klein

Bob Mackey
Mr. Robert E. “Bob” Mackey of Port Jervis, N.Y. and a lifetime resident of the area died Friday, February 19, 2010 at home. He was 72.
He was born April 22, 1937 in Port Jervis, N.Y. the son of the late Joseph and Mabel MacKechnie Mackey.
Bob married Jackilyn A. “Jackie” Cole 48 years ago on September 9, 1961.
He proudly served his country in several capacities including the U.S. Marines and as a trooper in the New York State Police in Kingston and Middletown. Bob worked as a security guard at West Point’s Bullion Depository Mint. He was a member of the N.Y.S. PBA and the New York State Trooper’s Association.
A family statement read: “The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Alam, Dr. Pino and Dr. Dinsmore and the entire “Hospice” family for all the care and compassion shown to Bob throughout his illness.’’
Surviving are: his wife Jackilyn A. “Jackie” Mackey at home; daughter Melissa Muller and her husband Michael of Sparrowbush, N.Y.; mother Mabel Fox of Port Jervis, N.Y.; sister-in-law June Johnson and her husband Roy of State College, Pa.; uncle Russell MacKechnie and his wife Peggy of Highland Lake, N.Y.; grandson Michael Robert Muller of Sparrowbush, N.Y.; granddaughter: Amanda Jeanne Muller of Sparrowbush, N.Y. Also several Nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Mackey, and step-father, Joseph ‘’Poppy’’ Fox.

Donald Nicholas Schields, Sr.
Donald Nicholas Schields, Sr. died Sunday, February 21, 2010 in the comfort of his home surrounded by family. He was born to Nicholas Francis Schileds and Hazel Burrows Schields, February 23, 1933 in Port Jervis where he remained a lifelong resident. Donald began working with his father in the family tire business, later becoming President and co-owner of Schields Tire Service after proudly serving his country in the 35th Infantry Regiment, U. S. Army in Korea. While continuing his work in the business he served an additional eight years to his country as a reserve member. As a community member and local businessman he believed in giving back and supporting the community in his unassuming ways.
Donald remained an active member of Metauque Falls Sportsmen’s Club, Tri-State Rod and Gun Club, Veterans of Foreign War Post 161, St. Mary’s Church, and Lifetime member of the NRA. He also held honorary membership in the Sunnyside Rod and Gun Club (aka. Deer Call Hunting Club) and White Tail Hunting Club. He was an avid outdoorsman and NASCAR fan. His greatest passion and joy was to be Papa to his five grandchildren.
Donald leaves behind his devoted wife , celebrating 51 years of marriage on February 22, 2010, Janet Pepper Shields at home, his son and namesake Donald N. Shields Jr. and his wife Jeanmarie P. Schields of Port Jervis, his daughter Lynn Marie Schields Kozen and Mark Kozen of Manahawkin, N.J. His five beautiful grandchildren Kristen A. Kozen of Chester, VA, Maggie E. Schields and Nicholas R. Schields of Port Jervis, and Marc G. Kozen and Dylan N. Kozen of Manahawkin, NJ. He is further survived by one brother, Paul Schields of Matamoras, Pa, his cousin and business partner Robert Schields of Sparrowbush, NY, many nieces, nephews and a large extend family. In addition to his parents Donald was predeceased by his mother and father in law, Margaret (Sis) Worden Pepper and William George Pepper; sister-in law, Carol Wieker Schields; sister in law, Nancy Pepper Zabowski, and brother in law, G.William Pepper.

Joan Brink
Mrs. Joan M. Brink of Greenville Township, N.Y. died Sunday, February 21, 2010 at Orange Regional Medical Center Arden Hill Campus. She was 72.
She was born January 29, 1938 in Middletown, N.Y. the daughter of the late Claude S. Sr. and the late Lillian A. Casterline Brodt.
Joan was married to the late James E. Brink, Sr. He died April 9, 1990.
She worked for over 30 years at Kolmar Industries in Port Jervis.
Joan was a proud supporter and active member of the Port Jervis Salvation Army.
A family statement read: “Mom was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who enjoyed making her beautiful handmade quilts for family and friends.’’

HAWLEY – Frances Pauline (Masko) Beilman, 86, of Hawley, died unexpectedly at Wayne Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, February 17, 2010.
Born in Jessup, PA to the late Stanley and Anna Masko, she was married 60 years to Joseph P. Belman.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Queen of Peace RC Church, Hawley.
Francis was a very devote Catholic. She was also devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren. She followed politics and world events very closely. She had a great sense of humor. She was predeceased by a son, James; a brother, Stanley; and a sister, Pauline.
Survivors include: her husband, Joseph of Hawley; son, Joseph P. Belman, Jr. of Hawley; son & daughter-in-law Michael and Karen Beilman of Hawley; daughter & son-in-law Kathleen and Frank Costa of Honesdale; grandchildren: Brendan and Lisa Beilman; Kathryn and Serena Costa; sister, Ann Preschutti of State College, PA; brother, Joseph Masko of Olyphant, PA; several nieces and nephews.

George John “Buddy” Koerner, IV, of San Francisco, Calif., formerly of Milford, Pa. passed away January 28, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital in San Francisco after an extended illness.
The son of Marilynne (Ridley) Hunt and the late George J. Koerner, and stepson of Robert Hunt, he was born February 9, 1949, in Port Jervis, NY.
George served two tours in Vietnam, was wounded, and received the Purple Heart. Upon his return he moved to San Francisco to finish his schooling in tile design and installation. On a visit to San Francisco you can see his many designs in public buildings and homes in the Bay area. He was also an artist of great talent but never pursued that talent. In his youth he was a student of the renowned local artist, Ernest Land whose many paintings hang in the Pentagon.
George is survived by his loving mother and stepfather; sisters: Colleen and Dan Musselwhite of Hendersonville, NC, Kathleen and Roy Retallick of Milford, PA, Claudia Briscoe of Mesa, AZ, and Michele Hutchison of Doylestown, PA; brother William Briscoe of Milford, PA; he is further survived by his uncles: Arthur and Jane Ridley of Milford, PA, Robert Ridley of Matamoras, PA, Richard Ridley of Milford, PA, Floyd Ridley of Pittsburgh, PA; and aunts: Gertrude and Art Smith of Matamoras, PA, and Pat Taylor of Knoxville, TN; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Further survived by the “angel” in his life, Sharon Drummond, and her husband Richard, without them his life would have been much more difficult.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 6, 2010, at the Milford United Methodist Church, 206 E. Ann St., Milford, Pa. with Rev. David Repenning officiating.
Interment will be private at a later date.

SHOHOLA – Sydney Meghan Polatnick, 20, of Shohola, passed away at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, on Sunday, February 21, 2010.
She was a student studying animation at the School of Visual Arts, Manhattan and was currently enrolled in general art studies at Sussex County Community College, New Jersey.
She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, Milford.
She was born on March 6, 1989 in Stoney Brook, NY, the daughter of David and Jean (O’Malley) Polatnick.
Survivors include her parents, David and Jean, of Shohola; two sisters, Laura Polatnick of State College and Margaret Polatnick of Shohola; one brother, William Polatnick of Shohola.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place at St. Patrick’s Church, Milford, on Wednesday, Feb. 24 with Rev. Gerald Mullally officiating.
Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family with final interment in Milford Cemetery, Dingman Township.

HAWLEY – Charles Gillette, 79, late of Hawley, died Saturday, February 20, 2010 following a courageous 2-1/2 year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Dunmore, PA to the late Gaetano and Josephine Ciero Gillette, he was married for 60 years to Regina Helen (Wendrick) Gillette.
He was retired from the United States Postal Service after 30 years. He owned and operated the Sandy Beach Motel for 16 years. After his retirement from the Postal Service, he owned and operated the Trading Post in Hawley for 10 years. He also worked at Yuba Fabricating Corp.
He was a member of the BVM Queen of Peace RC Church, Hawley; he was a graduate of Hawley High School and Wayne Commercial School. He was also in the United States Army, Korean 1952-54.
Memberships included Knights of Columbus for 33 years and past Grand Knight of Hawley Council #797, 3rd Degree; past Faithful Navigator of #927 Bishop Hoban Assembly, 4th Degree; member 4th Degree of Honor/Color Guard, Honorary Lifetime Membership 4th Degree; former Board of Directors at two local banks; former Board of Trustees at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
He loved to travel, golf and was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers. His favorite trip while traveling was to Guardia la Lambardia, Italy in 2003. He was a member of the Gourmet Dinner Club for 37 years.
Survivors include his wife, Regina, Hawley; son & daughter-in-law Gary and Vicki Gillette of Detroit, MI; son & daughter-in-law Stephen and Patti Gillette of Portland, OR; daughter Lori Gillette of Raleigh, NC; brother, Albert Gillette of Hawley; Grandchildren: Michael, Melanie, Kamil and Karolina; many nieces and nephews.
