Dog Day At SES

Dawn Buzzelli’s kindergarten class at ASK Elementary School enjoys the dog hats given to them by guest readers Liz and Matt Witherow. Liz Witherow read the class Harry, the Dirty Dog and all of the students wore the hats while enjoying a great story.

ASK Goes To OM

PORT JERVIS — ASK Elementary School recently sent several teams to the Odyssey of the Mind Competition.  Pictured is one of the school’s teams:  (from left to right)  Julia Legato, Margaret Williamson, Bryn Hendershot, Elizabeth Tasker, Harry Tomasi, Adam Princiotto, and Joshua Kowinsky.  Coach Lynn Hendershot in back row. The team was in Divison I (Grades 3 – 5) and they solved Problem 5 which was  Food Court.  Congratulations and a job well done to all of the students who participated.

Perfect Attendance

Students at ASK Elementary School who had perfect attendance for the second marking period were recently treated to an extra special bagel breakfast.  Pictured enjoying their delicious treat are Sierra Stevenson and Indya Ladson.

Kids And Kindness

Students at ASK Elementary School have been concentrating on caring throughout the months of December, January and February.  The students have been encouraged to perform random acts of kindness for their classmates, their teachers and their families.  Several classes have decorated the main hallway of the school with different projects that highlight the many ways caring about others can be demonstrated.  Pictured is a third grade class in front of their “Rainbow of Caring.”  Shown are Brianna Moore, Julia Huston, Kaila Torres and Jordan Weaver.

Coyote Class

Third graders in Elena Quinn’s class at ASK Elementary School have been enjoying reading the Native American tale “Coyote Places The Stars”.  After a weeklong in-depth study of the tale, which included comparing real animals to the animals in the folk tale, the teacher’s husband, Scott Quinn, sent in a real coyote pelt for the students to examine.  Pictured holding the beautiful pelt are Jett Conklin, Sierra Everett, Lauryn Derosa, Emily Golding and Ariyahna Crawn.

High Honors

ask Picture 172Fourth, fifth and sixth graders at ASK Elementary School who  made the high honor roll for the second quarter were recently given a special treat.  The students were invited to attend a delicious  “Ice cream Sundae Party” complete with whipped cream, cherries and other scrumptious toppings!  Congratulations to all who earned this wonderful reward and keep up the great work.  Pictured is Principal John Solimando serving up the sweet treat to students Joseph Dowling and Brianna Krupunich.

ASK Goes Red For Women

red for women Picture 170Faculty and staff at ASK Elementary School recently showed that they  promote womens’ cardiac health by wearing red on “National Wear Red Day” February 5.  The group, organized by school nurses Linda List and Lori Sexton, also raised $220.00 for the American Heart Association.  Go Red For Women!

Smoke Detectors Distributed

smoke detect Picture 171The Port Jervis Police Department’s DARE program recently distributed a new smoke detector to every child in the ASK Elementary School.  The smoke detectors were purchased and distributed at the request of the Fahey family in memory of their daughter Devon and her friends Kassandra and Julia Dorritie who perished in a fire in 2009.  The DARE program received the money from donations made in Devon’s name.  The Cuddebackville Fire Department purchased and distributed smoke detectors to the students at HBE Elementary School as well.  The children were instructed to have the devices installed just outside  of their bedroom doors.  Now every elementary school age student has their own smoke detector!  A big thank you goes out to the Otisville Hardware Store and Kevin Belston who paid for the shipping and made the detectors available at cost.  Pictured is  sixth grader Eliana Lopez, Firefighter Joyce Cirulli, Connor Decker, and Police Officer Kelly Decker.

ASK Holiday Show

xmass 001All seven first-grade classes at ASK Elementary School recently gathered together to perform holiday songs for their family and friends.  The children did a spectacular job, and all who attended thoroughly enjoyed themselves.  Well done first graders- thanks for spreading your holiday cheer!

Hanukkah Hoopla At ASK

hooplaPicture 198Third graders in Mary Grace Carlton’s  and Maura Brady-Wilson’s third grade at ASK Elementary School enjoyed learning about the history of Hanukkah and participating in special Hanukkah traditions.  The students listened to Hanukkah stories, wrote Hanukkah essays,  sang Hanukkah songs, made special Hanukkah crafts,  and held a special Hanukkah party complete with latkes, apple sauce, sour cream and a rousing version of the “Dreidel Game”.  Pictured with the crafts, dreidels and latkes are Savannah Maillet, Crystal Guest and James Bock.
