LORDS VALLEY – Laurie Accetta has her Ford Expedition cleaned out, gassed up and ready to go.
Her goal is to shuttle seven bargain-hunting passengers per trip on a “foreclosure tour” of properties in Pike, Monroe and Wayne counties.
Pike tallied about 750 foreclosures last year and, this year, is already close to 600. Acetta got the foreclosure tour idea from a real estate broker her sister knows in Texas.
“(The broker) takes about eight people a day. She gets one to two sales a day. She’s doing fantastic with it,” said Accetta, of Re/Max One in Lords Valley.
The strategy will save on time, gas and general vehicle wear and tear, Accetta said. She has magnetic signs promoting the tour posted on her SUV.
“I’ll be at a store and people will come up and ask me about it,” she said. The shuttle tour is also highlighted on the Re/Max sign along Route 739.
Accetta figures she can cover a lot of territory starting at, say, Lake Ariel, then swinging down to Dingmans Ferry, Bushkill and into Monroe County.
Dozens of foreclosures per month are hitting the housing market in Pike and Monroe counties.
“They’re just sitting there,” said Accetta. “There’s such a big market of foreclosures.”
While there are deals to be made – such as a four-bedroom, two-bathroom Birchwood Lakes home that recently sold for $45,000 – Accetta cautions home-buyers who want to save even more money by skipping a home inspection.
“Always, always, always have your inspection,” she said, “This is a big investment. You don’t know what’s going to come up.”
A real estate agent for a little more than two years, Accetta got into the business as the recession took hold.
“I came in at a rough time but the good thing is it’s giving me an opportunity to learn more,” she said.
LORDS VALLEY – An all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast will be held on Sunday, August 30, from 8 AM to 1 PM at the Blooming Grove Volunteer Fire Department’s main building on Route 739, 1 mile north of I-84 in Lords Valley, PA. The meal will consist of pancakes (choice of blueberry or plain) French toast, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, coffee, tea and orange juice. Cost for adults is $6.00 and children $4.00 under 12.
