HAWLEY — A fun time was had by all at Gresham’s Chop House on Rt. 507, on Wednesday, March 3 at a “Realtors® to the Rescue” Fundraiser to benefit the Pike County Humane Society (PCHS). Spearheaded by Patti Steimling and a team of animal lovers and Humane Society supporters, the fundraiser provided much needed dollars, generated through an admission charge and raffle ticket sales.
In addition to revenue, the evening also provided great conversation and hospitality in a cordial bar/lounge atmosphere, hot and cold Hors D’oevres donated by the Gresham Chop House, and a tricky tray raffle with prizes donated by real estate companies, stores, businesses and individuals.
At the end of the event, PCHS Executive Director Barry Heim introduced Coco as a representative of the shelter’s adoptables, “…the real beneficiaries of events such as these,” Heim noted. Any group that would like to run a fundraiser for the PCHS can call the shelter at 570-296-7654 or contact Steve Warshaw at swarshaw@ptd.net for information.

GRETCHEN: Gretchen, a 4-year-old black lab mix was rescued from a shelter where her time had run out and she’s at our shelter now awaiting a loving family she can call her own. And given her history, she’s certainly deserving. She had been taken from a neglect situation where she and her 3-month-old pup were confined in unfit outside conditions. When her pup broke loose and ran into traffic, Gretchen jumped out of her cage and broke her chains to grab her pup, with brakes screeching and cars swerving to avoid them. Observers reported her heroic efforts and called animal control. Today, Gretchen and her pup are now at the Pike County shelter safe and sound. If you can open your heart and your home to this loving pooch, Gretchen holds the promise of learning to be a devoted companion and loyal pet with the help of your TLC.
JADEN: A one year old boxer/lab mix, Jaden was turned into the shelter due to a family illness, and now she needs a family to play with and love. She gets along with shelter visitors, adults and kids alike, but doesn’t like the other shelter dogs, so she’ll do best as the only pet in the household. Housebroken and learning her basic obedience skills with the help of treats, she’s anxious to please and ready to become your best ever pet, a loving companion and playmate given your patient positive training and tender loving care.

MILFORD - Pike County Humane Society Executive Director and Cruelty Officer Barry Heim stopped by Milford’s Books and Prints at Pear Alley to thank owners, Barry and Hillary Anthony who had organized “Gracie’s Christmas Tree” a Christmas fund raiser for the shelter. Nearly 100 people from the area and far away as, Maryland, Virgina, Vermont ,Colorado and Florida.donated cash or goods. During the Christmas Season the event raised over $1,000 in cash and goods for the shelter.
Inspired by their adoption last summer of Gracie, a very shy black standard poodle PCHS had rescued from a puppy mill, the Anthony’s wanted to thank the shelter for bringing Gracie into their lives, and decided on the Christmas fund raiser as a perfect way to honor Grace and give something back.
When adopted by the Anthony’s, Grace joined Molly, the Anthony’s beautiful 11 year old white standard poodle who is a long-standing household member and bookstore staff, according to Hillary, naming Molly the President of Dog Affairs and newcomer Gracie as Molly’s administrative assistant.
Barry and Hillary Anthony, along with Molly and Grace, want to thank everyone who supported Gracie’s Christmas Tree. The Support was overwhelming and they hope to make it an annual event.
